The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) is thrilled to unveil a series of bold format changes set to elevate the 2025 season! Here’s what to expect as we redefine the landscape of professional esports:
Key Changes:
Introduction of the LCK CUP:
- Kicking off in January and February, the LCK CUP features two groups chosen by 2024 Summer finalists Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports.
- The CUP winner secures a spot in March’s inaugural global League of Legends event, showcasing a fearless draft format.
Revamped Regular Season Structure:
Starts in April, excluding CUP results from standings.
The season will unfold in five rounds:
Rounds 1 & 2:
- April and May will host a single round-robin, best-of-three format.
Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) Qualifiers:
The top six teams enter a semi-double elimination bracket in June, setting the stage for the season’s second global event.
Rounds 3 to 5:
- Teams split into Legend (top five) and Rise (bottom five) groups.
- Each group battles through a best-of-three, single round-robin, culminating in playoffs.
Playoff Innovations:
Top four from Legend and top three from Rise join a play-in bracket.
Best-of-five, double-elimination structure leads to the crowning of the LCK season champions.
The top three playoff teams qualify for the World Championship, with potential for an additional fourth seed.
