LCK Announces Exciting Format Overhaul for 2025 Season

A New Era of Competitive Gaming Awaits Fans and Players Alike

The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) is thrilled to unveil a series of bold format changes set to elevate the 2025 season! Here’s what to expect as we redefine the landscape of professional esports:

Key Changes:

Introduction of the LCK CUP:

  • Kicking off in January and February, the LCK CUP features two groups chosen by 2024 Summer finalists Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports.
  • The CUP winner secures a spot in March’s inaugural global League of Legends event, showcasing a fearless draft format.

Revamped Regular Season Structure:

Starts in April, excluding CUP results from standings.

The season will unfold in five rounds:

Rounds 1 & 2:

  • April and May will host a single round-robin, best-of-three format.

Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) Qualifiers:

The top six teams enter a semi-double elimination bracket in June, setting the stage for the season’s second global event.

Rounds 3 to 5:

  • Teams split into Legend (top five) and Rise (bottom five) groups.
  • Each group battles through a best-of-three, single round-robin, culminating in playoffs.

Playoff Innovations:

Top four from Legend and top three from Rise join a play-in bracket.

Best-of-five, double-elimination structure leads to the crowning of the LCK season champions.

The top three playoff teams qualify for the World Championship, with potential for an additional fourth seed.
