Mojang Studios has unveiled one of the most atmospheric and eerie overworld biomes in Minecraft’s storied history: the Pale Garden. Arriving in Minecraft snapshot 24w40a and the upcoming 1.22 update, this desaturated forest introduces a hostile entity that defies conventional combat mechanics—The Creaking—alongside the Creaking Heart, Resin crafting materials, and nocturnal Eyeblossom flora.
The Creaking: Combat Rules & The Weeping Angel Mechanic
The Creaking operates under an unsettling behavioral mechanic similar to Doctor Who’s Weeping Angels. As long as a player maintains direct line of sight with the mob, it freezes completely in place. Turn your back or glance away, however, and the wooden monster rushes with deadly speed, dealing heavy melee damage.
- Immunity to Direct Damage: Conventional swords, bows, maces, and splash potions deal zero damage to The Creaking. Slashing it with Netherite weapons merely causes wood particles to fly without depleting its health bar.
- The Creaking Heart: The monster is tethered to a glowing block embedded inside nearby Pale Oak trees called the Creaking Heart. When struck, particle trails lead directly back to its heart block.
- Eliminating the Mob: Destroying or mining the Creaking Heart instantly dissolves the Creaking into wooden ash. Use an axe enchanted with Silk Touch to collect the Creaking Heart for automated redstone security defense builds.
Resin Clumps: Crafting, Bricks & Armor Trims
Each time you strike The Creaking while its Heart is active, the Creaking Heart block deposits Resin Clumps on surrounding pale oak logs:

Eyeblossom Flowers: Daylight vs Midnight States
The Pale Garden floor is blanketed in Eyeblossoms. During daylight hours, these flowers remain closed grey buds. When midnight strikes, they blossom open with glowing orange pupils, emitting an eerie stare and stewing into Suspicious Stew with Blindness effects.
