Riot Addresses Blue Essence and XP Earn Rates with Promised Improvements

Riot Games has heard the feedback loud and clear from its League of Legends community—and they’re taking action. After reworking the Blue Essence system and leveling XP earn rates in Season 15, major flaws were revealed, leaving players struggling to earn rewards effectively. Now, Riot is making big changes to fix the issues and ensure a better gaming experience for all.

What Went Wrong?

With the introduction of the new battle pass system, Riot’s changes drastically cut down Blue Essence earnings for hardcore players—up to 75%, in fact. This left many frustrated, as earning enough BE to purchase champions became an exhausting grind, with reports estimating over 882 hours for just one champion. Riot has acknowledged the mess-up, saying, “We meaningfully screwed up on this one.”

The Fix Players Have Been Waiting For

Riot is stepping up to correct these issues starting in Patch 25.S1.3, the next update cycle. Here’s what’s changing:

  • Higher Blue Essence Earnings – Players will receive up to 22% more Blue Essence compared to pre-pass seasons.
  • Faster Champion Unlocks – Missions and milestones will be reworked to make acquiring champions quicker and easier for both casual and hardcore players.
  • Improved Progression for All – The changes aim to balance rewards and align better with the community’s expectations.

Compensation for Players

Riot isn’t just patching the system; they’re making it up to affected players with several compensations:

  • One-Time Boosts – A proportional boost of BE or XP for accounts impacted by the prior system.
  • Exclusive Content – Special in-game rewards like skins, emotes, or icons as a thank-you for players’ understanding and patience.
  • Special Events – Aimed at helping affected players catch up on missed progress during the flawed system period.

How Riot is Communicating

Transparency is key, and Riot is committed to keeping players informed through multiple channels:

  • Direct in-game notifications with links to detailed updates.
  • Announcements on social media and the official League of Legends website, complete with FAQs.
  • Community Q&A sessions on Reddit to ensure players’ voices are heard and questions answered.

A Look Ahead

Riot’s candid acknowledgment of their mistakes and proactive steps to fix the system send a clear message—they’re listening. This update aims to not only resolve current issues but to rebuild trust and strengthen their commitment to the League of Legends community.

Stay tuned for the release of Patch 25.S1.3! With these updates, earning rewards, unlocking champions, and progressing in League will finally feel rewarding again.
