Gonna Need Milk Spearheads Pioneering $250,000 Women’s Fortnite Series
In what marks a significant stride for the inclusivity and empowerment of women in eSports, the initiative ‘Gonna Need Milk,’ championed by the North American advertising agency MilkPEP, has unveiled the groundbreaking Milk Cup – a Fortnite tournament series dedicated exclusively to female competitors in North America with an astounding $250,000 prize pool.
This groundbreaking event sets a new standard for women’s eSports tournaments in North America, offering not only an unprecedented prize pool but also a platform for female gamers to showcase their skills and compete at the highest levels. The Milk Cup, with its substantial commitment of funds, explicitly addresses the crucial issue of the pay disparity between male and female eSports athletes.
Operated by the dedicated women’s esports platform Raidiant, the Milk Cup series consists of three Major tournaments occurring across May, June, and July, leading up to an in-person Grand Finals in the Autumn of 2024. This event promises to be a beacon of inspiration, set to be broadcast on Twitch, allowing audiences worldwide to witness history in the making.
The collaboration with Women of the eRena guarantees over 400 women the opportunity to participate and shine in this prominent event. This initiative by ‘Gonna Need Milk’ aligns with its established goal of supporting and fuelling the endeavors of female athletes. The organization is no stranger to venturing into the esports arena, following in the footsteps of Malaysian brand Goodday, which previously made headlines with its unique senior citizen Counter-Strike 2 team in February 2024.
Yin Woon Rani, the CEO of MilkPEP, firmly expressed their commitment: “Our dedication extends beyond mere words; we are keenly attuned to the gaming community, cherishing their insights and feedback. ‘Gonna Need Milk’ carries a legacy of uplifting women athletes, and through hosting the Milk Cup, we aim to galvanize young girls and women around the globe, fostering an esports industry that supports and rewards talent irrespective of gender.”
This event is not just a tournament; it’s a clarion call for change, rallying the industry to recognize and rectify gender disparities. For aspiring female gamers and esports aficionados alike – the Milk Cup stands as a testament to what can be achieved when opportunities are created, paving the way for a more inclusive, diverse gaming world where talent is the only criterion for success.
Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to support these incredible esports athletes as they break barriers and set new records in the action-packed realm of competitive Fortnite.
