Universal Music Group Launches Beat Galaxy: the Next-Generation Roblox Music Hub

Universal Music Group (UMG) is excited to announce the launch of Beat Galaxy, a groundbreaking new music hub on Roblox, a popular gaming platform with more than 66 million daily active users as of March 2023. Fueled by a strategic partnership with Supersocial, the renowned game developer for Roblox, Beat Galaxy aims to create a unique music discovery experience that goes beyond algorithms and captures the community-driven essence of today’s music landscape.

Game on! Rhythm Gaming Meets Global Music Discovery

Featuring UMG artists and an engaging rhythm game component, Beat Galaxy promises a user experience that seamlessly melds gameplay with music discovery. In addition, the platform will serve as a future venue for virtual concerts, bringing fans together in a social and interactive environment.

Yonatan Raz-Fridman, Founder and CEO of Supersocial, envisions Beat Galaxy as a catalyst for innovation in how we connect with music: “Beat Galaxy creates a next-generation music discovery experience on Roblox that not only provides an opportunity for fun social gameplay but creates true utility for music discovery beyond the algorithm in a community-driven way.”

The New Frontier: Gamers and Music Fans Unite

With an increasingly youthful and globally dispersed gaming audience, the music industry recognizes the power of tapping into this new frontier of music’s fan-centric growth. Gamers’ passion for music is undeniable, as highlighted by an IFPI report that found 44% of gamers had watched a virtual music concert on a gaming platform in the last three months. A Deloitte study further revealed that “42% of Gen Z gamers listen to other music while gaming,” and “34% hear music in a game and then look it up online to stream or buy.”

Roblox + Universal Music Group = A Perfect Match

Roblox has experienced immense growth during the pandemic, leading to numerous high-profile music industry partnerships. Recently, Spotify joined forces with Roblox to create a virtual music island, Elton John crafted his own virtual experience, Warner Music Group launched Rhythm City (a “music-themed social roleplay experience”), and the K-Pop group TWICE delved into the virtual world.

Alvaro G. Velilla, Senior VP of New Business at UMG, describes Beat Galaxy as “a living, breathing music experience.” He adds, “Alongside Supersocial, we believe that we’ve created the go-to music getaway on Roblox.”
