Power Rankings & Defensive Masterclass: Why Puneri Paltan Rule
Coached by BC Ramesh, Puneri Paltan operate with an almost robotic defensive discipline. The right-corner and left-corner combination of Gaurav Khatri and Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh (now representing Haryana Steelers, but whose defensive template Pune continues to execute via Aman and Abinesh Nadarajan) suffocates opposing raiding units:
- Gaurav Khatri’s Ankle Holds: Holding an astonishing 72% tackle success rate, Khatri consistently executes lightning-fast diving ankle holds against right-raiders attempting bonus line toe-touches.
- Aslam Inamdar’s Captaincy: Balancing raiding responsibilities with strategic third-raid management, Inamdar ensures Pune rarely concedes multi-point Super Raids.
- Mohit Goyat’s All-Round Utility: Contributing in both raiding and cover defense, Goyat’s versatility gives Pune unmatched mat depth during do-or-die raids.
