Tournament Format and its Ramifications on Team Strategy

The M5 World Championship follows a two-stage format: Group Stage and Knockout Stage.

Group Stage: 2nd – 7th December 2023

  • 16 teams are divided into 4 groups.
  • Single Round Robin, with Bo3 matches.
  • The top 2 teams from each group advance to the Knockout Stage.
  • Bottom 2 teams from each group are eliminated.

Knockout Stage: 9th – 17th December 2023

  • 8 teams from the Group Stage compete in a double-elimination bracket.
  • All matches are played as Bo5, except the Grand Final, which is a Bo7.

The Group Stage’s single round-robin format means teams must bring their top strategies and skills, as there is no room for error. The Knockout Stage’s double-elimination bracket offers competitors a second chance, but also demands consistency and adaptability to make it to the Grand Final.
