The National League Division Series has ignited into an explosive rivalry as the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets battle in Game 3 of the 2026 NLDS. With the series shifting to a raucous Citi Field in Queens, both clubs enter with high offensive firepower following a high-scoring split across the opening two games in Philadelphia.
Starting Pitchers: Zack Wheeler (Phillies) vs Sean Manaea (Mets)
Venue: Citi Field, Queens, NY
Stakes: Winner takes a critical 2-1 series advantage and moves within one win of the NLCS.
Game 2 Fallout: Mark Vientos & Nick Castellanos Clutch Homers
Game 2 delivered an instant October classic at Citizens Bank Park. Mets breakout third baseman Mark Vientos launched two titanic home runs, including a game-tying shot in the 9th inning that silenced the Philadelphia faithful.
However, Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos answered in the bottom of the frame, delivering a walk-off RBI single into left field to send Philadelphia into pandemonium and even the series at 1-1. The back-and-forth slugfest demonstrated that neither bullpen can afford mistakes against loaded middle-order batting lineups.
Pitching Duel: Zack Wheeler vs Sean Manaea
Game 3 features a heavyweight starting pitching showdown. Zack Wheeler has been virtually unhittable in postseason play, holding a career 2.42 playoff ERA with a 0.73 WHIP. Wheeler’s ability to locate 97 MPH fastballs on the black and pair them with sweeping slurves presents a steep test for Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.
For the Mets, southpaw Sean Manaea relies on deceptive cross-body arm angles and sinking fastballs. Manaea will need to neutralize left-handed power bats Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber early in counts.
